Flickr

We have a Flickr account here at St. Andrews Regional. Kathy is our resident photographer and keeps our account updated with new photos. The leader of our book club that we have had for years recently passed away. The remaining members purchased a beautiful art print in her memory and donated it to us. Kathy took photos while the group was having their first meeting since her death. The print that they donated is hanging on the wall. The link to the picture is http://www.flickr.com/photos/standrewslibrary/1419073496/in/set-72157602110763565/.

Technorati

I used the advanced search feature to find information on library 2.0. I thought that by using the quotes in keyword my results would have been narrowed to that topic. It pulled up library and 2.0 results instead of "library 2.0" topics only. I found that I had to weed through the results to find those that I really wanted to read. When I searched for the same topic in the blog search box, I only received 16 hits. The search that resulted in the largest number of hits was when I searched by tag. I received 2,687. Many of the hits were in different languages.

I liked looking at the popular searches. It let me know what people were talking about most. I found a hit about news that was listed 2 minutes ago. I don't know if I would use Technorati because blogs are mostly people's opinions about various topics. I would much rather visit an authoritative site and form my own opinion about whatever the topic is. But, like I said, it is fun to visit.

Del.icio.us

I learned how to tag during one of the workshops that I attended at the TLC. It is nice to know that there are many places to acquire new information. Between attending classes at the TLC and these quests, I feel like I am a part of the community of people who can do more than just check email. I created a del.icio.us account and bookmarked some travel and cooking sites. It reminded me of when I did the RSS feeds. My del.icio.us address is del.icio.us/gibbsvblue.
